City Guide: Spring Awakening in Tallinn, Estonia

Merilyn Kesküla, Founder of Keskula Digital, is enjoying the spring awakening in Tallinn. The aliveness that comes after the long winter-slumber and cave-like living is palpable. The desire to explore the places and creators in her homeland feeds her curiosity…
Favorite thing about living here
I actually live in Keila, where I grew up as a child - about 30-minute drive from the capital, Tallinn. After roaming around in many vast cities - and mostly in London - it’s wonderful to be able to enjoy the urban life as well as be so near to nature.
Where to eat.. and drink
The restrictions have just been lifted and I was SO excited to explore some old favourites and new places that have been on my list for a while (as Virgo, I have lists for everything)
For coffee & pastry, I love Karjase Sai in Põhjala Tehas, an industrial area that has now turned into hip quarter with cool cafes & shops. As I just started working with BabyLuv, whose shop and offices are located there, I hope to get my coffee fix from this place more frequently.
One of the places in my “brunch” list was Värav Cafe in the Old Town, and it did not disappoint… Amazing chai latte and toasts, and such a cute vibe.
My favourite Italian in town - La Bottega - was the place we booked for a date night on Saturday. Oh, how I missed this… and the night didn’t end there, as we topped the fun up with artisan cocktails at Botaanik. Can’t wait to be back there.

Shopping
Frankly, I have restructured much of my life in a way that doesn’t involve conventional shopping trips. The food we have at home mostly comes from local producers via Membo app. But if I do desire walking between the shelves myself, I love to visit the newly opened Ökosahver for more organic groceries (yeah, I’m addicted to that stuff…)
For clothes, I love local design and visiting showrooms: good conversation + new outfit = makes my day. Both in the same area of Tallinn, I love the minimalist style and incredible care that goes into Studio August pieces. As well as the naughty vibe of Kriss Soonik - a visit I try to schedule for the time Kriss herself is in Estonia.
